Just imagine, you go to the yard and call your pet. It doesn’t turn up. You hurry to the side of the house and call again the pet dog with name. No response still. The fear grips in. you are about to experience what all most all the pet owner fear the most, the feeling that your beloved pet is lost. But in fact this is not the time to panic but to act. Let’s discuss about the things that one has to do at the time of crisis like this.

Things to do

First and foremost thing is to surf the locality completely. Talk to the passersby and the neighbors and inform that the pet is missing. Move about the locality and look for the lost pet preferably early morning or the evening. Take several print of the photo of the pet taken recently and place them at vantage position with the contact number of yours. The photo needs to be place at high traffic areas or veterinary hospital or, animal shelter.

It is the duty of the pet owner to circulate the information about the lost pet at least sixty kilometers radius. The animal shelter in the locality needs to be visited on daily basis. It is better to check the animals at the animal center in person, even though the authorities say that they don’t have any dog matching your description, to rule out the possibility of mistaken identity.

In case there is no rescue center or animal center in the locality, then the local police station must be informed about the lost pet and with exact details. Let the police be informed, in case you suspect any act of miscreant. Let the search be a continuous process. There are incidences that the lost pet was reunited to its owner even after few months.

Pet scam artists- beware

There are pet scam artist, please be careful about them. While giving the complete description of the pet, it is better to hold back certain important characters. There are people who use the information provided by you for their personal gain. If any one calls you and inform that he had found your pet, please act cool. Ask him to describe the details first and you don’t volunteer any information. Don’t pay any money to them unless you see the dog in person or gets the dog in your procession.

In case the lost dog was provided with the collar ID or tag, ask the person about it cautiously. Be careful if he calls you to obscure location with money to handover the dog. It is better to inform the police and to have their help.

Trucker scam

Please be aware the existence of trucker scam. The caller will identify himself as truck driver. He will say that the lost pet of yours was found at the back of the truck. He will ask you to send some money to bring the animal back to you. Everything will be a false. Don’t believe it and show any response to it.

One has remembered that those who have found the lost pet will do anything to reunite the dog and the pet owner and will not expect anything in return. Incase the person who informs you that he had found the dog matching yours description and expect something in return, be cautious. In case the person asks you ransom, just inform the police about, who will guide you properly to apprehend the culprit.

Thing to do to keep the pet safe

Let the dog be secured. The fence needs to be closed all the times. When you are not in the house let the dog be tied and don’t roam freely in the yard. Make sure that care taker is available at the house when you are not at home. While taking the dog door walk, please ensure that dog is on leash. Let the dog be provided with collar tag, micro chip, and tattoo for identification purpose.
